We haven't gotten much use out of our Riverfront Park passes this year, and so we decided that we would make a full day of it, and take Carson to a movie before we played at the park for the day. We love that movies are only $5 before noon, it makes for some reasonably cheap entertainment!
Garry was already downtown, and so the kids and I, though I started trying to get them ready early, were running a little behind for our movie. I called Garry and told him to buy our tickets and we would be right there. As we got to the mall, Garry texted and said that the gal had already ripped our tickets so to just check in and then come right to the movie. Sweet, trying to get Carson to walk just a little bit faster. We decided to take the elevator because I thought it would be faster.........Epic Failure!
As I got to the level with the ticket taker, I was holding the elevator open, and it started dinging, but the girl said they had to have a key to release the elevator to the next floor. So as the other attendant got the key, the elevator started closing despite my best effort. Carson and I hopped back in the elevator, and the kid said just hold on a minute, it will open right back up........
Dun, dun, dun.......
After pushing all of the buttons trying to get the doors to open back up, and not hearing anyone on the outside, I decided we best push the emergency call button, I wasn't sure if it was a true emergency, but I couldn't really hear anything happening on the outside either, so I thought better safe than sorry. I learned that when you push the emergency call button, it doesn't call security or something on site, but the actual elevator maintenance people which is not on site. So I talk with the lady explaining the situation, and she says she will call a maintenance worker along with building security to hopefully get us out soon......................Soon, right..............
I call Garry, who had been waiting in the aisle of the movie for us, while a mom with several kids asked him if he was waiting for his family, he told her yes, and she cringes and says, I think they're stuck in the elevator........Perfect. I call him and tell him that we are in fact stuck in the elevator, and that he should go get us free tickets. Score, refund, and free upgrade to 3D, I'll take it.
Now he calls me from outside the elevator, status check, how's everybody doing? Fine.... Okay well security dude wants to talk to you.....Sweet......
Yes, Ma'am we should have someone here to get you out in about 15 minutes.
Me: Okay, so is there anyway to turn some air on in here, my kid thinks he's going to puke.
Uhhhhh, no sorry you're just going to have to wait.
Me: Okay.......
Now with Garry back on the phone, I also tell him that Carson thinks he's going to puke. He says, let him......HAHAHAHAHA!
So we're not exactly sure how long we will be in the elevator the last thing I want is to have to smell puke and have no moving air..........Talk about awesome. So after talking Carson down, and giving him some water, he decides he's not going to puke anymore.
Security lets Garry know, not to worry, their onsite elevator repair will be there in the next 15-20 minutes. Garry looks at him puzzled and said I thought they were onsite. He says they are, we have two coming one from the valley and one from the airport, so who ever gets here first will help them out. Sweet sounds more like enroute, not onsite?
So we sit there for another 20 minutes or so, feeding both the kiddos some snacks. Carson entertaining us, trying to do "Kung Fu" on the door so it will open, to no avail. When finally the elevator man shows up. 43 minutes later, we are FREE!!!!! What an adventure. So in addition to our free movie, mall security gives us a voucher for free parking. We decided since we had some extra time to kill, and now we hadn't spent any money on our day, we would take Carson to Red Robin to eat, all better!
