Garry's band concert went really well! It was in combination with some of the junior high groups and they did a big combo number at the end, it was pretty cool.
The other cool thing that he did, was a demonstration about the testing required by the "No Child Left Behind" Legislation. In most classes you are considered as passing if you get a 70% or above, however in the music classroom we generally expect no less than 95%, and are always striving for a perfect 100%. To demonstrate this to the audience, he had the students first play a short excerpt from a Bach Chorale at the "normal" 70% passing level. Then he stopped the group and had them play progressively at 80%, 90%, and 100%. I thought it was a great way to demonstrate to parents about how the expectation is much different in the music classroom, than in the regular classroom. And also for them to hear the difference between a 70% performance and a 100% performance, because even if you have no formal musical training, most people can listen and hear the difference on such a wide spectrum.
