Summer Olympics 2008

I love the olympics! Unfortunately I missed the opening cermonies because I was working at KOHL'S. Garry asked me what my favorite event was, and I told him it was probably gymnastics, but honestly, I don't know if I could pick a favorite. I really enjoy gymnastics, but I also really love watching swimming, volleyball (both indoor & outdoor), diving, field but not so much track...

As a music teacher, I feel passionately about patriotism and representing your country especially when you beat the world and acquire a gold medal. I taught elementary music a couple of years ago, and it was my goal to help my students understand the importance of learning the Star-Spangeled Banner, and be proud of where they come from. My major annoyance about the Olympics this year, is watching as athletes from other countries win gold medals, and proudly stand up and sing their countries National Anthem. Then you watch American Athletes win, and just stand there. It is just like sports teams who know their team fight song when competing at the high school level. You win, you sing the fight song. Shouldn't it be a pre-requisite of being on the United States Olympic Team that you know the "fight song" AKA the National Anthem??? Okay enough of my ranting, now that this is 6 weeks ago, people will ask, "why does she care anymore?" Oh well.

I thought this was quite funny... Since a good majority of the first week of the broadcast was dedicated to Michael Phelps, Carson became quite familiar with him, knowing that it would be pretty cool to be Michael Phelps, or at least like him. This picture is one of the times, after watching Phelps strip off his shirt getting ready for his race that Carson also stripped his shirt off and began warming up to get ready for his race, for the next two weeks after the Olympics, I would continually get after him for nose-diving on the couch and also on the bed. He would fly through the air, then paddle his arms, move to the other end of what ever object he was "swimming" on, and jump up and yell. YES, I WON, YES, YES, YES. It was quite funny. Who knows maybe the boy who doesn't like to put his face in the water will one day learn to swim, and impress the world........
